Resolved Question: What are megapixels, what's HD, and how is video/picture quality measured? (10 POINTS FOR MOST DETAIL)?

What is HD? I thought both pictures and videos were measured as follows: more megapixels, higher quality. Higher resolution, bigger the pic/video. However I recently read several people complain about the 0.7 megapixels the iPod Touch 4g gave us. Small, I know. But then people said, it doesn't matter because the camera was more geared toward video recordings. The iPod records in HD. Which I thought was top of the line quality.
